As Japan is faced with confronting an aging and dying society in advance of the rest of the world, systemic problems have become intense and diverse. In his presentation addressing “How and who will care for the aging and dying population? Professor Matsushita will discuss the problems associated with the underlying phenomena of Japanese population, death, healthcare delivery systems, and health service organization primarily from his own service innovation perspective.

Although invention geared towards artifacts including pharmaceutical and medical equipment utilizing cutting-edge medical technology seems attractive, is materialistic innovation perfectly effective and affordable for those who require care? Should the significant part of the national budget go to the sector that leads materialistic innovation? Who decides the application of newly developed medical technology and how? Does the principle of market competition work well in health care? In answering those questions, he will provide the audience with insights to use and empower “social capital” in innovating health services in local community.
